Coach Education Continues to Thrive in Cornwall

ANOTHER FANTASTIC UPTAKE ON OUR COACH EDUCATION PROGRAMME

It has been a very busy period for Cornwall FA’s coach education team as we lead up to Christmas, with several well-attended courses taking place throughout the county.

CoachingGrassroots coaches and volunteers have been able to benefit from a range of education and development opportunities through courses such as the FA Level 1 in Coaching Football, FA Level 1 in Coaching Futsal, FA Introduction to First Aid in Football and the FA Developing Coaches Through Mentoring course.

Corinne Winkworth, Cornwall FA Football Development Administrator, said: “The uptake and engagement of our coach education programme has been great within our football family. A highlight was being able to deliver a unique and bespoke FA Level 1 in Coaching Football course on the Isles of Silly. In addition, we are also trying to work with our football clubs and leagues to deliver courses and meet their needs to help support the game.”

The feedback from our coach education courses continues to be positive, and one learner recently explained how the course has changed his approach to coaching and the structure he works within.

He said: “Like a lot of us, I fell into coaching without really knowing what I was letting myself in for! I’ve always loved football, played as a kid, never really remember being coached and as a result I was basing my practices on guesswork and things I remembered from years ago.

Coaching“This course has given me a complete structure to work to; one that makes sense and has really made me think about what kind of coach I want to be. I had never really thought about the possibility that my team could have an overtly inclusive ethos, or more importantly, the harm I could be doing if I base selection on ability. My kids will directly benefit from me having been on this course and one or two might be saved from my well-intended but flawed approach until now!

“Chris is an excellent coach and strikes the right balance between support and challenge and the sessions themselves were a lot more enjoyable than I expected. It’s been good to see ‘what good  looks like’ even if I never quite reach that level as a part timer!”

Plenty more courses are set to run in Cornwall over the coming months, so visit the link below to view dates and book a spot.
