Sticker Win The Final

Sticker win the Rathbone Trophy Final.

Cornwall FA Rathbone Trophy Final

Monday 29th April 2014

Sticker Youth FC v Callington Colts Youth FC

In front of a large crowd Sticker Youth won the Rathbone Trophy in their first ever appearance in the final.

Their narrow 2-1 victory was achieved during a first half spell when they responded after going behind in the 20th minute when Regan Callender of Callington Colts cashed in on sloppy defending by the Sticker defenders.

This provoked Sticker into a period of sustained attack with their efforts rewarded with two goals in fairly quick session.

Firstly Martyn Duff equalised after 32minutes with a neat headed goal and then in the 42minute Sam Fogarty struck home a powerful shot from just inside the penalty area.

The second half was dominated by Callington who despite all their efforts were thwarted by stout defending and Dan Peters making many fine saves in the Sticker Goal. A good shout for a penalty was ruled out by an assistant’s flag which left the Callington supporters none too impressed. Sticker held out until the final whistle to secure the trophy.

Following the conclusion of the game the mementoes for each club was presented by the County President Brian Conyon and the Rathbone Trophy given to Sticker Captain Connor Payne by Dave Bray County Vice Chairman.

Congratulations Sticker Youth

Cornwall FA would like to congratulate Sticker on winning. We would also like to thank St Blazey for hosting the Rathbone Final and for the use of their facilities and hope everyone enjoyed the match.
