Step into Football workshop- Janaury 2018

Parents engaged at Step into Football

On Saturday 20th January Cornwall FA hosted a ‘Step into Football’ workshop at Penryn College in partnership with Falmouth Community Youth...

On the day an impressive 29 volunteers were in attendance from Falmouth Community Youth, St Day Youth and Troon Youth football clubs. The majority of the attendees were parents of players or volunteers brand new to the game, engaging the people this course was designed for.

The tutor delivering the course was our County Coach Developer, Chris Morris, here are some of his thoughts on the Step into Football Course that day;

“The Step into Football course is designed to offer mums and dads, helpers and assistants the opportunity to have a first look at how they might be able to help out at their local club as an assistant coach, helper or simply someone who might be able to fill in on the odd occasion where required.

It breaks down some of the barriers such as, “I have no playing or coaching experience” or “I don’t know the rules” and looks at the reasons why children play football and what they want from their sessions. The workshop offers the chance to see experienced FA tutors deliver some very simple games and practices and attendees will leave with a range of resources which they can adapt and use in their own settings.

Finally the workshop gives a flavour of what are the prospective next steps for those who might like to consider getting involved in a Level 1 course in Coaching Football.”

We will be looking to work with a number of other clubs this season to host our Step into Football workshops, it is the perfect opportunity for clubs to engage their parents and increase their volunteer base. If your club would like to get involved in this please get in touch on the details below;
