The FA Tesco Skills Programme held in Bodmin
The highly acclaimed FA Tesco Skills programme held its Cornish launch day on Wednesday 31st July at the Dragon Leisure Centre in Bodmin. 50 children attended the first Cornwall FA Tesco Skills session to celebrate the launch of the programme.
The day started with an introduction from Marcus Lincoln, the Cornwall FA Tesco Skills team leader, before the children were split into their age groups. The groups spent time with each of the FA Tesco Skills Coaches, practicing skills such as dribbling, passing and shooting before playing small-sided games.
The event showcased the FA Tesco Skills Programmes’ foundations, which are The FA’s ‘4-corner’ coaching model, developing children technically, psychologically as well as physically and socially to not only develop football skills but also life skills such as confidence, teamwork, decision making and problem solving. The coaching is also based on the FA Future Game with the aim of developing young players who are comfortable on the ball, creative and have good game understanding.
Shelley Vanstone the Community Champion from Tesco in Launceston came down to provide children with free drink and fruit and each child also received an FA Tesco Skills goodie bag and certificate. The day finished with a prize draw, 4 lucky children winning an England shirt or a guided tour around Wembley Stadium for their families!
The Cornwall FA Tesco Skills coaches thoroughly enjoyed celebrating the launch of the programme with all of the children and hope to see them all again soon. Boys and girls aged 5-11 are encouraged to come along to the FA Tesco Skills sessions to experience expert football coaching this summer, with sessions taking place throughout the holidays.
