Walking Football lands at St Austell Leisure Centre

Sessions are free until Christmas.

To mark International Men’s Day on 19th November, St Austell Leisure Centre launched its first social walking football taster session.

Male mental wellbeing is a key theme this year and physical exercise, in a communal setting, is known to reduce stress and social isolation, whilst improving health and fitness.

Cornwall FA has supported the creation of the sessions, which will be free of charge until Christmas before operating on a pay as you go system thereafter. It is part of a concerted effort from the Football Development Team to improve the walking football offering around the county.

Will Snapes, Football Development Officer: "The partnerships with GLL and Better Leisure have offered us a great opportunity to improve the senior pathway by creating a recreational walking football offering as well as a competitive one. We hope this will encourage people to get active, take part and potentially progress into competitive teams as well. The walking football offering also supports GLL and Better with their community engagement targets and will tie into their 'Club Games' for senior members, which we look forward to supporting in the future."

Sessions are every Monday, 10:30-11:30am.

Cornwall FA would like to thank GLL and Better Leisure Centres for their support in setting up Walking Football offerings in both St Austell and Liskeard.
