Stand-In Referee Workshop to return in September

This event will take place online on Thursday, 21st September.

After a fantastic response to this event in March, Cornwall FA is pleased to announce the return of our online workshop for stand-in referees.

This event will take place on Thursday, 21st September between 7pm and 9pm.

The aim is to improve the standard of refereeing across youth games in Cornwall by upskilling those parents and other spectators who may sometimes step up in the absence of a qualified match official.

The session will be led by Cornwall FA Referee Development Officer Lee Swabey. During the session you will learn the Rules of the Game and how to consistently apply these laws. Areas covered include red and yellow cards, the advantage rule and direct vs indirect free-kicks, among others.

The focus will be on giving you the confidence to act as a stand-in referee and making sure you are well-equipped to handle a competitive game. “The session had so much stuff that I didn’t know before,” said one attendee of our first session back in March. “The two hosts made sure their presentation was interactive with loads of polls, quizzes and other bits to get involved with and ask questions!”
