Lionesses through to first World Cup Final
England will fight through to the very end of the 2023 Women’s World Cup. Our Lionesses beat hosts Australia 3-1 in Wednesday’s semi-final to reach the final for the very first time. They will now face Spain at 11am on Sunday morning with the trophy on the line.
The win over Australia, with goals from Ella Toone, Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo, continued a fine run for the Lionesses who now appear to be rounding into form at just the right time. Having beaten Haiti, Denmark, China, Nigeria (on penalties) and Colombia to this point, England dominated the first half and took a deserved lead. A Sam Kerr wondergoal drew Australia level but England hit back and scored two goals in the final twenty minutes to claim their spot in Sunday’s final.
A huge congratulations to the Lionesses who are inspiring women and girls all over the country, and especially to Cornwall’s own Katie Robinson for being part of this magnificent squad.

Stepping Over The Sidelines
Want to get started as a female coach or volunteer? This workshop, to take place the day before Sunday’s World Cup Final, will give you the skills, knowledge and confidence to get involved.
Three-step route into coaching
Stepping Over The Sidelines is the first stage of Cornwall FA’s three-step route into coaching. We recommend attending this workshop before progressing on to complete the online EE Playmaker course, showing you how to make football safe and inclusive for all. Following this you can attend the Cornwall Coaches Conference on September 3rd to get practical experience out on the pitch alongside other grassroots coaches. Sessions will be delivered by expert coach developers with years of experience – find out more here.
All three steps are totally free – so what are you waiting for?
