Safeguarding workshop with Paul Stewart

Paul Stewart to host Safeguarding Awareness presentation for clubs and leagues

Monday 23rd January 2023 - 7pm start

Cornwall FA are delighted to announce that former English professional footballer Paul Stewart will deliver his online Safeguarding Awareness presentation on Monday 23rd January 2023.

Paul Stewart played top division football for Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, and was capped three times at senior level for England in the early 1990s, also winning the FA Cup with Tottenham Hotspur. Paul suffered horrific abuse as a child by a youth football coach, which led him to an adult life of drink, drugs and suicidal thoughts. Paul’s story was featured in BBC1’s “Football's Darkest Secret”.

Paul will talk openly and honestly about the impact abuse had on his life.  His story is one of the most powerful stories you will hear, but it will bring hope as he still managed to succeed despite his experience.

Cornwall FA Designated Safeguarding Officer Claire Summers-Evans said, “We are delighted to be joined by Paul Stewart in January. Paul’s willingness to share his own personal story will be a reminder to everyone involved in football in Cornwall, why it is vital that we continue to safeguard all children and young people and that we recognise and report abuse”.
