For the 2022/23 season, Cornwall FA will be offering Girls U18 football through a new U18s League operating in the East and West of the county.   

To supplement the current football offering for girls in the county, the new Girls U18s League has been introduced to help bridge the gap between youth and open age female football as well as provide an additional opportunity for those girls who have made the step into open age football.  

Cornwall FA Womens, Girls and Disability Officer Andrew Heapy said, “we are really excited to get this new league up and running to help provide an additional opportunity for girls across the county to continue participating in football. Previously, the only option for girls who have just finished their last season of youth football was to jump straight to open age, adult leagues.  

With the new U18s Girls League, the girls who want additional developmental time before transitioning into open age football now have this platform to stay involved in the game and we hope by having this provision we will be able to sustain and grow participation levels across the county”.  

How will the league operate?

The league will be based at two venues operating in the East and West of the county. Fixtures will be mid-week with fixtures adopting a flexible approach resulting in teams playing every other week, allowing players to fit this opportunity in and around their work and other playing commitments.  

• East Division – Callington 3G (Friday - 7pm to 9pm) 
• West Division - Falmouth School 3G (Thursday - 8pm to 9pm)  

Both leagues will be split into 2 phases (each phase running for a total of 14 weeks) with a break for Christmas in-between. Therefore, new teams can join the provision over the Christmas break ahead of Phase 2. Both leagues will commence on week beginning 12th September 2022 and operate in a format of 7/9 a side (TBC following initial launch meeting) with 40-minute matches.

Players
