Helston Athletic Women are crowned champions after winning 4-0 against Saltash United Women in this year's Cornwall Womens Cup Final.

The Cornwall Womens Cup Final welcomed Helston and Saltash to Burngullow Park on Friday 22^nd April 2022 for the first Womens Cup since the 2018/19 season. A fitting venue for the Cornwall Womens Cup final which was set up to be an exciting final.

Both sides, overcame their opponents in the semi-finals with convincing victories with Helston beating Liskeard 3-1 and Saltash scoring 8 past RNAS Culdrose.

Helston proved too strong for Saltash on the night, with a convincing 4-0 victory. The game started lively for both teams but Helston found a break-through goal 19 minutes into the first half, with Beth Prouse finding Sasha Sparkes who beat her opposite number, only for a covering Saltash defender to make a last ditch tackle unfortunately knocking the ball past the Saltash goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

In the final moments of additional time during the first half, a quick freekick from Helston saw Eve Moore strike the ball into the top corner to make it 2-0.

Quick into the second half, Helston continued to push for another goal and were awarded with a free kick. Sparkes’ in-swinging delivery was punched away by the Saltash goalkeeper, only to be bundled in by Helston’s Prouse to make it 3-0.

Despite this, Saltash remained resilient and looked to try and get back into the game with several chances being denied by brave defending from Helston.

As the game progressed, Helston found a 4^th goal with Sasha Sparkes finding space inside the box to strike the ball into the bottom left corner.  

With Helston in control, Saltash tried one final push for a consolation goal, only to be denied in the 93 minute by the linesman who’s flag rose up to deny a Saltash goal following Hugh’s freekick in the final minutes of the game.
