On Tuesday 12th April, Polzeath Monday took on St Neot AFC Flexi in the Phase 2 Callywith Flexi-League Final, with Polzeath edging St Neot with a 1-0 victory.
After an impressive debut season for newly reformed St Neot AFC Flexi, one game awaited to see if a true underdog story could see the newcomers overcome the previous champions Polzeath Monday. Both teams went in with high hopes but Flexi-League regulars Polzeath managed to see out the game with a 1-0 victory despite a valiant effort from St Neot AFC Flexi. The game saw great commitment from both sides, along with some brilliant individual and team performances, showcasing all the Flexi-League has to offer.
Polzeath have also previously won the Phase 1 Callywith Flexi-League Final earlier in the season as well as being crowned champions in the previous season, making them winners in their 3rd consecutive final.
Cornwall FA's Football Development Officer Joshua Stockdale attended the final and said, "it was brilliant to see such an exciting final which really showed what the Flexi-League is all about. Both teams have a mix of players who take part in the Flexi-League to be able to continue playing football on a more causal basis as well as providing an opportunity for younger players to play open age football, with the view of these players transitioning into their club's adult teams in years to come.
It was great to see newly reformed St Neot AFC reach the final in their debut season. The progress they have made in such a short amount of time is brilliant and they are a great example of a real community team bringing everyone together to play football".
Congratulations Polzeath Monday!
