Volunteers supported at club assistant referee workshop

Cornwall FA’s referee tutors Luke Wilkes and Steve Annis were welcomed to Helston Athletic FC last night to deliver a club assistant referee workshop.

The purpose of the workshop was to help educate and support volunteers on how to perform the role of the club assistant referee effectively on a match day including flag signals, positioning and offsides.

The workshop involved theory-based discussions and practical activities out on the pitch to provide a real insight and engaging experience of the assistant referee’s role.

Cornwall FA Referee Development Officer Lee Swabey said, “we wanted to hold a workshop for those club volunteers who are asked to run the line on a matchday to provide them with some useful information in an informal, fun, interactive way. We are hoping that by running workshops like this we can further help our clubs, leagues and referees by providing them with trained club volunteers to help out on a matchday”.

Cornwall FA would like to thank Helston AFC for their support in hosting the workshop and to Luke Wilkes and Steve Annis for leading the workshop.
