Cornwall FA are delighted to announce that following discussions with local leagues we are in a position to offer discounted courses to people wishing to take up the whistle. 

Without referees, we wouldn't have a game. Unfortunately, there is a shortage of referee’s to cover games nationally at the moment within Grassroots Football. There are many different reasons for this and whilst we continue to work with and support our existing Referee Workforce to address some of these reasons, we also appreciate it is important to increase the number of referees in the County.  

Cornwall FA have always offered some of the cheapest Referee Courses but now thanks to generous donations from several of our affiliated Leagues we are able to offer the course for just £30, this is a massive 75% discount to our usual price of £120. Additionally, once a referee has completed 20 games they will have the £30 course fee refunded.  

The first discounted course is being held at Hayle AFC starting on Monday 15th November 2021. We already have a number of people booked on however there is still time to register your place here.

Referee Development Officer Lee Swabey added, “It is great to see some of our local leagues helping to subsidise courses, there has been a real willingness to support this initiative and Cornwall FA are extremely appreciative. The benefit for Cornish Football will be huge and the leagues recognise this. Of course we have to retain these new referee’s and that is where myself and the referee department at Cornwall FA come in. We also need our clubs to ensure they play their part by helping to support and respect the referees who are going out and officiating matches on a Saturday, Sunday and during the week. The leagues and Cornwall FA are doing their part and we need everyone working together”
