Newquay Tretherras in partnership with Newquay AFC Youth awarded funding to revamp football facilities
Newquay Tretherras have been awarded a grant from the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation, to upgrade their grass pitches via funding for new equipment and grass pitch improvement works over the next 6 years.
The Football Foundation is the UK’s largest sports charity and exists to improve the experience of playing football for everyone, by championing fair access to quality facilities.
Players will be able to enjoy better quality pitches with improved playing surfaces, which will represent a significant improvement on the existing grass pitches for both our 11v11 and youth size pitches.
Newquay Tretherras in partnership with Newquay AFC Youth worked with the Football Foundation and the Cornwall County FA to secure a £21,600 grant towards a new tractor and cutting deck as well as £59,800 for grass pitch maintenance over the next 6 years.
Richard Higginson Deputy Head at Tretherras, said: This support from the Football Foundation and Cornwall FA will make a significant difference to the provision of grass pitches at Tretherras for the local community to access in particular Newquay AFC Youth. The level of funding is significant which will enable Tretherras to improve and maintain its current grass pitches to a high level providing a number of 11v11, 9v9 and 7v7 pitches for use. With the improvement of these pitches and the excellent 3G astro on site which was also joint funded by the Football Foundation, Tretherras can now boast to have the best football playing and training school and community facilities in the county. Our work with our Key Partner Club Newquay AFC Youth will ensure these facilities are used to good effect, encouraging more of our young people to engage in football and experience the very best playing surfaces.”
Daniel Greenough Football Development Manager at Cornwall FA added, "It has been brilliant to see the development of the relationship between the football club and the school and the progression of the site as well. The school have a real focus on improving the facilities available to the community and with Newquay AFC Youth going from strength to strength makes for a successful partnership, proving football opportunities for local people. The equipment they have received from Vincent Tractors is not only high quality but also competitively priced meaning the pitches can be maintained to a high standard now and into the future".
Robert Sullivan, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “This grant award to Newquay Tretherras towards developing its provision of grass pitches is great news for the local community.
It will support people’s ability to play our national game locally and therefore help unlock football’s many benefits to physical and mental wellbeing. That’s why we’re committed to transforming the face of grassroots football facilities in this country. It’s therefore very welcome news to hear that this funding will support Newquay AFC Youth in developing a top class playing surface for competitive matches and training facilities for their local community.
The Football Foundation is working closely with our partners – the Premier League, The FA, government and Sport England – support facility development projects like this across the country over the next decade to transform our grassroots game and unlock the power of pitches.”
