After receiving funding from the Football Foundation, St Just AFC were able to introduce new security fencing at Lafrowda Park.
Over recent years St Just AFC ground has been used as a public park resulting in numerous incidents of vandalism and damage to the club’s pitch, equipment, changing rooms and clubhouse. The damages have caused financial implications for the club with recent damages to the club’s newly installed box nets being a prime example.
After being accepted for funding from the Football Foundation, St Just AFC were able to source further funding from St Just Town Council, LiveWest and Private sponsor to purchase and install new security fencing.
Joe Sturgeon (Chairman of St Just AFC) stated, “the fencing has finally given us the opportunity to safely progress as a club. We have recently been accepted for a grant to help enhance our playing surface, which we would never be able to do without this fencing.
The grounds are now much safer for spectators and both our adult and youth sides. The fence is also transparent and not noticeable unless up close, so it's not disrupting the local aesthetics. All in all, it's been a long time coming but we couldn't be happier”.
Daniel Greenough (Cornwall FA Football Development Manager) added, “we were delighted to hear that St Just AFC had received funding from the Football Foundation and other sources to help secure their grounds. Working with Joe from the start of the project was great and helped steer the club in the right direction from the beginning. Having a safe environment for their youth and adult team to play football is crucial for the long-term sustainability of their club”.
Joe further added, “We would like to thank CGS Contractors for carrying out the works, where they carried out a superb job. Also, a big thank you to Daniel for his time, help and advice when I originally enquired about the project. It wouldn't have taken off without him”.
