Newly qualified referee support meeting

The first online meeting was delivered last week to support new referees

Last week, Cornwall FA delivered an online support meeting for newly qualified referees.

The support meeting provided the opportunity for new referees to share their current experiences with other referees from across the county. More experienced referees were also able to provide feedback and guidance based on their refereeing experiences with the view of passing on lessons learnt to the newly qualified referees.

The discussions also then covered aspects of refereeing such as foul recognition and decision-making during games to further support the new referees during future games.

Lee Swabey, Cornwall FA Referee Development Officer said, “we are very grateful to the referees who engaged with the session, providing support for the newly qualified referees on the call. Taking your first steps into refereeing can be a nervous time therefore to have more experienced referees sharing similar experiences and how they have dealt with these with the newly qualified referees was a great learning opportunity for those in attendance”.

Following the event, an attendee also added, Firstly thanks for the update evening, it was top and really useful to hear from other junior refs about their experiences on starting out.”
