Following a record number of nominations across all award categories, the Cornwall Football Association has now been able to start presenting winners with their awards as part of the Cornwall FA 2020 Grassroots Awards.
The Rising Star Award recognises those under 25 who have made a significant contribution to their local community and this year’s successful winner of the Cornwall FA Rising Star Award 2020 is Joe Hockin, who has been recognised for his contribution to Camelford Football Club. After being presented with the award by Peter Stevenson (Cornwall FA Board Member) at a recent Camelford match, Joe had the following to say:
“Receiving the Cornwall FA Rising Star of the year award for 2019/20 has no doubt been the biggest achievement of my journey as a youth coach so far.
When we revived the youth section at Camelford in September 2018 we had 3 coaches and were training between 10 and 15 kids each week and most of them had never kicked a ball before. In the space of 2 years we now have 7 coaches and around 35 kids signed up across the various age groups all of which are producing positive results and improvements which just shows how much the club has progressed and grown as a whole.
This award is not just for myself but for the whole club to recognise how much progress has been made and will no doubt not be the last time that the club receives recognition for all of the work we’ve put in.
Finally, I would like to thank everyone at both Cornwall FA and Camelford football club for giving me the opportunity to receive this award”.
Everyone at Cornwall FA would like to congratulate Joe on his award and the great work Joe and others involved have done so far to develop footballing opportunities at Camelford FC.
