U18s disappointed with 2-0 loss to Jersey FA

It was a disappointing outcome for the Cornwall County’s U18s on Saturday evening in their FA County Youth Cup tie against Jersey with the Duchy going down to a 2-0 defeat.

The match was switched to the all-weather pitch at Callywith College, with the heavy rain on Friday and Saturday, this proved a good decision.

It wasn’t however, so good for Cornwall on the pitch as they were beaten by a strong opposition. Both defences rode their luck a little in the first half, the ball on more than a few occasions either going just the wrong side of an upright or just behind a flowing attack. It was a fairly even half with plenty of effort and endeavour, the first half ended 0-0.

Into the second half and Cornwall were unable to get any supremacy in the contest, Jersey took control and on the hour the deadlock was broken by a shot from the edge of the penalty area. Cornwall tried to force a leveller but as we pushed forward and with time running out, Jersey’s closed out the game as their attacker used his pace to sneak a second and with time all but up, there was no chance of a come-back.

In the end it was a frustrating day for Glynn Hooper’ side, but Jersey looked like a strong team and we wish them good luck in the next round.

Next up for Cornwall is a visit from our neighbours across the Tamar Devon FA
