Golf Day Raises £655 for Local Charity
Last Sunday 2nd June we held our Charity Golf Day at Truro Golf Club, this year we were supporting the great work that local charity ‘The Invictus Trust’ do raising a fantastic £655. On the day 7 teams of 4 players took to the course which started as a rainy day but brightened up later as the teams made their way around to the back nine. The day concluded with a 2 course meal in the clubhouse and presentation of prizes for closest to the pin and longest drive along with prizes for the top 3 teams. We were delighted to have Steve Cowburn, co-founder of the trust come along to the event to be presented with an initial cheque for £500 from Cornwall FA Board Member Steve Lawrence.
About The Invictus Trust
The Invictus Trust was founded by the Cowburn family in 2010 following the tragic loss of their son and brother aged just 18 after a short period of mental illness. The Invictus Trust is a small charity which aims to support and offer services to local Cornwall teenagers who are suffering from poor mental health and associated issues. All funds raised are used to help with supplying easy to understand on-line information regarding mental health terminology including their web based Mental Health Portal which directs young people to other excellent websites and sources of information including the 3 Invictus films. The trust also campaigns for increased awareness of mental health issues via a blog, Facebook and Twitter.
The trust is also in the process of building an innovative 14 bed unit in Bodmin so that Cornish young people do not have to travel out of county for their care. Cornwall desperately needs this resource and the Cornwall Partnership Foundation Trust have published a fully costed business case offering two sites to the commissioners. This will be the first unit in the UK caring for 13-25 year olds in one setting. For further information on The Invictus Trust please visit the following:
