CORNWALL FA HOSTS FIRST-EVER FA POKÉMON YOUTH FUTSAL CUP EVENT

Cornwall FA was proud to host its first-ever FA Pokémon Youth Futsal Cup local qualifying round in Newquay on Sunday 8 December, with 30 teams across three age groups competing on what proved to be a hugely enjoyable and successful day.

Feeding into the national FA structure, the qualifiers at Newquay Tretherras School and Newquay Sports Centre saw ten teams compete in each age group and the winners on the day were as follows:

QUALIFYING ROUND WINNERS

Futsal CupThe event was a huge success and received plenty of positive feedback from referees, players, parents and coaches. Daniel Greenough, Cornwall FA Senior Football Development Officer, said: “Futsal is such a great sport and has so many benefits to the players whilst also supporting football development. People are always wary when something is new but you could feel the buzz around Newquay on the day.”

The county winners will now go on to the South West regional finals at the Paignton Community & Sports Academy in Devon on 14 and 15 March 2020. St Day (below) and Bude (right) will both compete on the Saturday, with St Agnes (above) in action in the U14 category a day later.

More futsal action is on its way this weekend, with the girls FA Pokémon Youth Futsal Cup being held at Sir Ben Ainslie Centre Truro on Saturday 14 Sunday 15 December.

Cornwall FA would like to congratulate St Day U10s, Bude U12s and St Agnes U14s on reaching the next round and thank everybody for their efforts on Sunday, including our youth leagues, clubs, teams, referees and the two fantastic venues.

Our best wishes also go to all teams competing in the girls’ event this weekend.
