Referee Support for Cornwall

Cornwall FA is aware of the difficulties in getting all fixtures covered by a registered referee at the moment, to some extent recently with the annual impact of FA Cup and Vase fixtures but also due to fewer referees reregistering or making themselves available on fewer occasions each week or not enough new referees coming into the game.

The protocol we have in place has worked in the main very well over a number of years but the current situation is unlikely to be remedied and will only again be exacerbated as we move in to the winter period. We are trying a number of different things to improve this including encouraging our non-registered referees to re-register and understanding why they haven’t re-registered, continually looking at ways of supporting our existing workforce to stay in the game and in addition to this we are also running information workshops around an introduction to refereeing and running full referee courses in both the east and west of the county. The below provides information on the workshops and courses coming up as we encourage volunteers to get involved.

Are you coming to the end of your playing career, but want to stay involved with football?

Do you think you could do the job of your last week’s referee?

If you didn’t have a referee last week could you fill that gap?

Are you aged 14 or over?

If have answered yes to any of the above then what are you waiting for?

Cornwall FA is currently taking bookings for two upcoming basic referee courses being held at two venues.

Venue 1: Wendron FC - 28th October and 4th November
Venue 2: Cornwall FA Office, Bodmin- 4th and 18th November

Full course details and how to sign up can be found via the link- http://po.st/WXE4cx

If you are still unsure and would like more information we are holding two ‘Introduction into refereeing’ evenings in both Bodmin and Wendron. These are taking place on Monday 22nd October from 19.00-20.30 and are free to attend.

The informal evening is aimed at answering any questions or concerns you may have regarding this route into football. It will also give you the chance to voice any concerns/fears that maybe stopping you from taking up the whistle.

On hand across both venues there will be current active referees along with brand new referees that have recently completed the course.

If you would like to attend the evening please get in contact with our referee workforce officer Stuart Kane who will happy to take your booking.
