Cornwall Schools Girls vs West G (2)

Cornwall Girls Schools run out double winners against West Glamorgan

On Saturday 10th November two girls’ teams represent Cornwall Schools FA in the ESFA Girls Inter County Trophy.

The U14s were up first to face West Glamorgan Schools FA with a 2pm kick off using the great 4G pitch facilities at Callywith College, Bodmin. The Girls played fantastic and secured a well deserved win, without the performance of the West Glamorgan Goalkeeper the margin of victory would have been wider. Goalscorers were Katie and a 25 yard free kick strike from Mari. Beth Willshaw, team coach of the U14s was extremely proud of the girls performance, the girls put into practice all of their learning from the season so far to put in a real performance for all to be proud of.

The U16s followed the U14s again facing West Glamorgan Schools and had a big challenge to match the standard that the U14s had set. The Cornwall Girls got off to a slow start and found themselves going 1-0 after 11 seconds. They fought back to make it 1-1 at half time but then found their selves 3-1 down with 16 minutes to go. The girls showed great character, their skill & determination was rewarded and they took the game into extra-time. Special mention to Jasmine who scored all 4 Cornwall Goals including a last minute penalty in normal time to force extra time. Once again the team coaches were really pleased by the girl’s attitude and resilience to ultimately get their result.

A huge thank you to everyone who came to support the girls for the fixtures, it was great to see so many attend. Thank you to the match officials and to the coaches who volunteer their time to ensure the girls get the opportunity to play.

Both squads did the county proud and we look forward to the next round of fixtures.
