RAFA Day supports 30 local referees

On Sunday 22nd July Cornwall FA held our annual RAFA day at Wendron FC

Firstly we would like thank Wendron FC for their fantastic hospitality, the support the gave made it a wonderful day for all.

Guests on the day were Premier league assistant referee Simon Long and Football league referee Lee Swaby, again we would like to thank both of them for giving up their time to attend our event.

The day itself was aimed at referee development along with presentations on red card reporting, the temporary dismissal procedure, law changes 2018-2019, and the future of refereeing in Cornwall.

The morning session covered Referee psychology and included presentations by Simon and Lee based on their own experiences. This in itself was the source of great debate along with a little bit of fun.

The afternoon session was more practical based, and in keeping with the fun element a game of walking football took place giving each attendee the chance to referee. The purpose was to enable more communication by the referee to the player which included referees of different levels putting their own style into practice which was great to see.

We then moved onto a practical lining session which was taken by Simon. This included psychology in action and how to analyse each decision before turning a negative into a positive. The session was fun interactive and greatly received by all.

The final part of the day was all about the new red card reporting system, law changes and the future here in Cornwall.

We are currently in the process of organising a second event to take place in the East of the county in 2019 and would really love to see as many refereeā€™s there as possible.

May I thank our tutors Luke Wilkes, John Reid, Shaun Edge and Paul Minns for all their efforts during the day and for helping to organize the event.

Please keep a look out on social media for upcoming events.
