Groundsman of the Year 2017

Peter Thorne of Wendron Football Club Wins Prestigious Award

Peter Thorne, groundsman of Wendron Utd Football Club yesterday received an award from the County FA Vice Chairman David Bray for "Cornwall Groundsman of the Year" before Wendrons match against St Dennis.

Cornwall FA make the award annually for the groundsman who is judged to have done the most to provide the best possible pitch for their club through their dedicated voluntary work.

Jonathan Stedman, Secretary of the Youth section said "Congratulations to Peter Thorne and his helpers. Over the last year they have turned their attention from installing the Wendron Stand to the Main Pitch playing surface. And what a transformation has been achieved! With an new tractor mounted aerator, hours of hard work have paid off. Now the teams at Wendron, who are grateful for all the hard work, just have to play the football to match the surface."

Peter Thorne who is also the Chairman and Secretary of the Adult section of the club lives and breathes Wendron Football Club.  On receiving his award Peter said "I would like to also give a big thank you to Mr Trev Mathews and Mr Peter Selley for all there help in helping me maintain the ground and pitches, plus all the managers that do there bit regarding there games, it takes a team not just one person"
