The Rise of Futsal - A Short Film

CORNWALL FA IS PROUD TO RELEASE A BRAND-NEW VIDEO SHOWCASING THE RISE OF FUTSAL ACROSS THE COUNTY

With footage from recent Pokémon Youth Futsal Cup events and exclusive interviews with players, coaches and Cornwall FA staff, the three-minute movie provides a unique insight into the game of Futsal, highlighting its benefits and the enjoyment it provides young players throughout the county.

Prior to the New Year Futsal really started to gather momentum in Cornwall, with plenty of successful competitions, courses and workshops taking place.

One of these events was Cornwall’s first-ever Boys FA Pokémon Youth Futsal Cup local qualifying round, held at Newquay Tretherras School and sport centre on Sunday 8 December. Cornwall FA was delighted to see 30 teams across three age groups competing on what proved to be a hugely enjoyable and successful day; and congratulations once again to the three winning teams, St Day, Bude and St Agnes.

A week later it was the turn of the girls, with Cornwall FA’s second event taking place at Sir Ben Ainslie Sports Centre in Truro over the weekend of 14 and 15 December. Another display of skill, sportsmanship and enjoyment followed, as 48 teams between the ages of U10 and U16 competed over the two action-packed days.

Meanwhile, Cornwall FA’s commitment to Futsal development was emphasised further through the delivery of a Futsal Referee Workshop and Level 1 in Coaching Futsal course earlier in the year.

Futsal may be hugely beneficial to players with its demand for technical ability and composure, but it also provides a great opportunity to up-skill referees and coaches, who may previously have only been involved in football in its traditional format.

The Referee Workshop at Newquay Tretherras School on 27 November had 10 referees in attendance, whilst plenty of coaches enjoyed the Level 1 course before going on to share the principles within their own coaching environments.

Futsal is expanding quickly across the county but there is still plenty of work to do, so expect to see more futsal incorporated into your league structures throughout 2020.

Cornwall FA is also keen to deliver more futsal coaching and refereeing opportunities and expand the network of coaches and referees supporting futsal in the county. If you’re interested in these courses, please visit the following Level 1 and Level 2 pages to register your interest, with more information to follow on the referee course.

Thank you for reading about Cornwall FA’s exciting futsal plans and we hope you enjoy the video below.

Our thanks go to Falmouth University and Matt Cowen for editing and recording the footage.
