Truro City Youth Football Club runs a Community Football Programme which takes place every Saturday from 10am-11: 30 am on the Astro pitch and Penair School in Truro. It is lead by a core team of volunteer FA qualified coaches along with parent and youth volunteers.

The focus of the programme is to provide a fun and friendly morning of football for boys and girls of all abilities from Reception through to year 6 classes. (10am-11am for children in Reception & year 1 classes & 10am-11: 30am for children in year 2 – 6 classes)

The sessions are split by school years so all children will be playing alongside players of the same age. Each year group is run by at least one FA qualified coach and another parent volunteer helper. We also have a group of youth volunteers who are ex-community football players who come back to help support the programme. Some of our other youth volunteers are pupils from Penair school who are fulfilling volunteering hours as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

For some of our children this is their first experience of football and for others football is their life so we try to find a good balance between making it as fun as possible while helping to develop their skills no matter of their ability.

As they make their way up the year groups there is also the opportunity to become part of a TCYFC team, our current under 7s team has been built from community football. And no doubt our budding young reception children will follow with the help of our coaches.

Each week there is a collective focus for the session, for example; passing & receiving the ball, shooting, heading & defending and set plays, to name a few. All year groups will take part in drills linked to the sessions focus but at an age appropriate level for their group. Sessions usually end with a match so the players can put their newly developed skills into practice!

There are refreshments available throughout the morning for players, parents/grandparents/careers etc. that is run by our superb volunteer admin team. In addition we also sell a range of Truro City Youth t-shirts & hoodies as well as operating a Boot Swap initiative whereby parents can bring in any outgrown boots they have and trade them in for a bigger pair! (This has proven to popular given the rate at which children grow out of their boots and Astros!)

Sessions cost £3.50 with the option to pay for a ‘block’ of sessions for a discounted rate. New players to the programme will be required to fill out a short registration form on arrival and the first session is free!

Anyone interested in coming to one the session can simply turn up on the day, there is no waiting list or pre-booking required! Alternatively to find out more information and to keep up to date with what’s going on at CF click on and like our Community Football Facebook page:
