Cornwall Womens Cup Final

Charlestown Ladies victorious

On Sunday afternoon Enys Parc, home of St Agnes Football Club was bathed in sunshine which was a welcome site for the 100+ spectators who came to see who out of Charlestown Ladies and Newquay Celtic would lift the Cornwall Womens Cup.

Newquay Celtic who were the current Cornwall Womens Cup holders were up against a very strong Charletown Ladies team who having already won the South West Womens Football League Western Division were looking for their double.

The game started very tentatively and with neither team giving much away, the battle was mainly in midfield and with no clear cut chances for either team they were still level at half time.  The second half however exploded into life when Charlestown Ladies took the lead with a great goal by Tori Marks which not only lifted the crowd but gave both teams a sense of urgency.

Charlestown scored again with 10 minutes remaining with a wonderful lob of the keeper again by Tori Marks to make it 2-0.  However Newquay Celtic never gave up and with minutes to go a super strike by Jess Longworth made it 2-1.  There was a frantic couple of minutes remaining but the referee Stuart Kane blew his whistle and Charlestown Ladies were crowned winners of the Cornwall Womens Cup.
