Bodmin Win Senior Cup Replay

After the thrilling Senior cup final on Easter Monday ended in a 0-0 draw, Tuesday 16th April saw the replay between Bodmin Town and Helston Athletic.

The game was played in front of a crowd of 823 and started as the first final had finished, with both teams playing at high tempo. Helston's Liam Eddy broke the deadlock with a cooly taken goal in the 19th minute.

It took the holders, Bodmin, until the beginning of the second half to equalise through Shane Krac. They then went 2-1 up through a typical Adam Carter goal in the six yard box. Helston kept fighting despite being down to 10 men after Kirk Davies was sent off after two yellow cards. It was another goal from their top striker Liam Eddy in the 84th minute which sent the game into extra-time.

Bodmin gradually took control of the game and added a third goal - this time a strike from Ollie Brokenshire. But Helston weren't finished by any means and substitute James Miller curled in a shot to equalise in the 116th minute.  It looked as if penalties would be on the cards until Lee Doel secured Bodmin their fourth cup title in a row with a well-placed shot.

The Man of the Match was Helston's Liam Eddy whose work rate was admirable and it seemed as if he just didn't stop running. for the whole game.

The match officials were referee Martin Ault, assistants Simon Berryman and Stuart Kane, reserve official Luke Maslen.

The trophy was presented by Cornwall FA President Brian Conyon MBE, the medals by Cornwall FA Chairman Geoff Lee.
