Coach education update - interim criteria 2020-21
As you may or may not be aware all FA Coach Education courses were suspended at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, we were forced to make the difficult decision to formally cancel several courses which were scheduled to have started earlier this year.
COVID-19 continues to impact on The FA and Cornwall FA’s ability to offer face to face education. With the ongoing restrictions that Covid-19 has imposed upon us all, we are still unable to deliver courses in a safe manner for everyone without also devaluing the course or content delivered to you as coaches/volunteers/referees/football family. In addition, a number of FA staff, including our County Coach Developer who tutor numerous courses, are undertaking a formal period of consultation with The FA which has made staffing the various courses to the requisite standard more difficult than normal.
Looking forward, The FA will be offering the course provision from March 2021. They will be releasing some further information on the changes soon and more detail on these courses will be available directly from The FA in the new year supported by Cornwall FA. Whilst long term plans are being made to offer alternative, sustainable delivery models it is necessary to make temporary changes for the 2020/2021 season as we look to continue to support you. The FA and Cornwall FA will also be communicating to any learners that are “In Flight” (have outstanding workshops/in situ visits) so that we can support you through your qualification. We appreciate this is not an ideal situation and would like to thank you, your clubs and the football family for your hard work and dedication ensuring football flourishes in Cornwall.
FA Education are committed to supporting football coaches in the role that they do, at every level of the game. As part of their new 4-year strategy to further improve support to coaches and the game, from April 2021 FA Education will take on full responsibility for delivering all coach education.
This change coincides with improvements FA Education are making to the ways through which coaches can learn. In addition to face-to-face support delivered by the Grassroots coach development team and the tutor-learner interactions that underpin many of the courses, new digital learning opportunities are being introduced to give coaches the option to pick and choose learning that interests them and undertake it at a time that suits them.
This modernised offer which utilises digital means in addition to the traditional face to face and pitchside sessions will open up more learning opportunities for coaches and help develop a culture of on-going learning.
It has been identified by the FA that the following courses will be redeveloped and launched first in April 2021:
• FA Level 1
• Safeguarding Children Workshop
• Introduction to First Aid in Football
There are also other online e-learning opportunities available to you if you visit The FA’s Boot Room , all of which will help you as you continue your learning journey.
You may or may not also be aware that The FA Licensed Coaches Club (LCC) website has been renewed, coaches should now login into My Account, any LCC related queries please see the following link to FAQ page dedicated LCC FAQ area.
