Futsal coach development event a success in Newquay

Ian Parkes delivered Cornwall FA's first coach development event of the year, “An Introduction to Futsal”.

Cornwall FA delivered the first coach development event of the year, “An Introduction to Futsal”, in Newquay last Friday (20th January). The session was led by Ian Parkes, a former England Futsal international and current FA Youth Coach Developer: Futsal Lead.

The event focused on the rules of Futsal and how to introduce it within a club’s training plan. Among the areas highlighted was the one- and two-touch passing required for progression in Futsal, and the benefits this can have in aiding player development. The session focused on the three core principles of controlling the middle, playing forward and playing with the correct height, width and depth. The coaches spent 90 minutes doing practical coaching work as well as a further 30 minutes in the classroom.

Cornwall FA would like to thank Ian as well as Newquay AFC Youth for hosting the event and providing 17 youngsters to receive coaching – they were a credit to themselves and the Club.
