Luke Wilkes - Cornwall FA Match Official of the Year 2020

Luke Wilkes Awarded Cornwall FA Match Official of the Year 2020

Luke Wilkes has been presented with his Match Official of the Year award

Following a record number of nominations across all award categories, the Cornwall Football Association has now been able to present winners with their awards as part of the Cornwall FA 2020 Grassroots Awards.

A recent trip allowed the Cornwall FA 2020 Match Official of the Year award to be presented to Luke Wilkes. Luke was delighted to receive this award and had the following to say:

“It was a proud moment to be named Match Official of the Year, with refereeing being a major part of my life (actually been refereeing longer than not, 16 years). There have been rare occasions where I felt I have wanted to leave but, with the support of others have got back up and started again. I hope that I also do this for others, and alongside my current job enjoy developing other referees as well. The award is brilliant recognition for all the hard work that the whole referee department do throughout the year, and it is a pleasure to work alongside Lee, Simon and Charlie, and Paul Murphy before that too. I hope that the next 16 years is as enjoyable as the first 16 years and can’t wait to see many more nationally recognised referees on the National League, Football League and maybe even the middle of the Premier League in the future!”

Everyone at the Cornwall FA would like to congratulate Luke on his achievement and wish him well on any future refereeing ventures. If you are interested in explore different refereeing opportunities within Cornwall, please contact lee.swabey@cornwallfa.com
