Cornwall Girls League Reaping Rewards of Futsal Grant

FUNDING ALLOWS CORNWALL GIRLS LEAGUE TO INCREASE FUTSAL OFFERING

Thanks to a Futsal Fund Grant provided by the Football Foundation, the Cornwall Girls Football League has been able to increase its Futsal offering by launching eight weeks of Futsal sessions at Sports Hub Treviglas in Newquay.
FutsalThis funding has allowed the league to expand on their already successful Futsal model to provide an enhanced offer to their Under-10 and Under-12 age groups, whilst still offering Futsal opportunities to Under-14s and Under-16s.

Vicky Fisher, Women’s, Girls and Disability Football Development Officer at Cornwall FA, said: “In total, this season will see 48 teams represented as opposed to 39 last year, so effectively there’s a 23% growth on last year.

“Huge credit should go to the league committee for their time and effort in providing such a fantastic offer and for adapting year on year as a result of the huge growth within the game, whilst always providing opportunities for all.

“There have been some fantastic fixtures played so far and we look forward to seeing the girls in action over the coming weeks.”

Posting on Facebook, the Cornwall Girls Football League commented: “With the rain pouring down and pitches unplayable, we’re delighted to give this massively enhanced offering for the girls thanks to the support of The Football Foundation’s Futsal Fund.”

Delivered by the Football Foundation and funded by The FA, the Futsal Fund is a scheme designed to aid the development of Futsal in England, offering grants of either £1,500 or £3,000 to develop new youth futsal leagues and increase opportunities for players to play Futsal on a regular basis in a structured games programme.

The Fund is currently closed for applications, but keep an eye on Cornwall FA’s website and social media channels for details when phase two opens.
