Last Friday we welcomed 40 young people from various schools across Cornwall to our Inclusive Football Festival at Callywith College. This event was run in partnership with Cornwall Schools FA and provided a great opportunity for many different young people to come together, have some fun and meet new people while playing football.

The first half of the day included various coaching sessions delivered by experienced coaches Natasha Mills and Beth Willshaw along with Youth Council member Mollie Dring. The players showed excellent skills and team work throughout the sessions and kept the coaches on their toes with lots of great questions and new ideas to try. The afternoon then saw all players mixing together in teams and competing in fast paced, small sided games. Each player was able to try out different positions and implement some of the skills that were practised in the earlier sessions. The great effort and sportsmanship on display was truly impressive. This helped create a really positive environment in which everyone involved could try their best, learn new skills and make new friends within fun matches.

We would like to say a big thank you to the schools that attended and made the day a success. Also to the coaches and referees who supported the festival throughout the day. We look forward to running similar events in the future where we hope to see even more schools and young people get involved.

Football Development Officer Vicky Fisher had this to say about the event; ‘It was the first time Cornwall FA and Cornwall Schools FA have worked together to deliver an inclusive football festival and it was great to see players from different schools across the county come together. The players not only showed great skill, determination but also played with smiles on their faces with fantastic attitudes throughout the event, a credit to both their selves and the schools they were representing’.
