Cornwall U18 v Cornwall Seniors

Report and pictures from game at Helston

Cornwall Seniors 5 - 0 Cornwall U18

The curtains finally came down on what has been one of the best ever County Youth U-18 seasons with a game against a Cornwall Representative Senior side.

Brilliant sunshine met the two teams as they entered the immaculate looking Kellaway Park at Helston for a game that was being held to mark the achievements of manager Glynn Hooper’s Youth squad over the season.

The fact that the Seniors eventually won 5-0 was academic in relation to the U-18s history making journey this season to the final of the FA County Youth Cup final.

In front of an attendance of 118, both sides exchanged early chances with Dan Richardson for the Seniors and Mattie Buchan for the Youth heading over at opposite ends and although the Seniors had more of the early possession, the first real chance went the way of the Youth with Joe Adkins heading over a left wing cross from Tiago Soares.

After Rob Wearne had gone close to opening the scoring for the Seniors, Harry Clarke made no mistake from close range to put them 1-0 up.

Four minutes later Wearne made amends for his earlier miss clinically finishing off a cross from his Falmouth Town team-mate Richardson and give the Seniors a two goal lead at the break.

The second half opened with some flowing end to end football, Soares proving dangerous for the Youth while Mark Goldsworthy threatened for the Seniors.

Josh Penrose made some of those flashing runs down the right flank, just as we have seen all season, and Cam Turner started to turn it on in midfield for the Youth but against the run of play the Seniors went 3-0 up with Goldsworthy finishing off some good work by Sam Matthews and Kirk Davies.

Glynn Hooper, in the unique position of “manager” for both sides on the night, swapped the teams around a little as the game finished with a goal flurry with Youth side penalty hero Jack Rapsey, now on and upfront for the Seniors, making it 4-0 with a cool finish from 12 yards out and the Newquay striker was also involved in the fifth and final goal with Clarke getting his second of the night from close range.

A special mention to the lads who got presented with caps at the game, Jack Rapsey, Cameron Turner, Josh Penrose, Luke Gwillam and Joe Adkins and a huge thank you and goodbye to skipper Charlie Hambly who collected a special award for 20 caps over the last 3 years.

James Heywood, Max Roberts, Ed Harrison, Matt Buchan also leave the U18 set up with our best wishes for their future careers
