South West Counties Youth Championship

Cornwall FA U18 Youth 3 v Wiltshire FA U18 Youth  1.

Cornwall FA played Wiltshire FA on Saturday 15th March 2014, at Victoria Playing Fields home of Nanpean Rovers FC.

Cornwall FA returned to a ground which has not been used by the County for many years, a unique setting amongst the clay pits of mid Cornwall. Whilst the fortunes of the club on the field of play have been meagre over the last few years, they have a loyal and hard working committee were delighted to have the County playing there on the sunny Saturday afternoon.

Cornwall FA Youth got off to the worst possible start, with the game only a few minutes in the Wiltshire FA Youth took full advantage when Cornwall 'keeper Ryan Trathen (Helston Athletic) looked to be impeded in attempting to catch a high ball but the ball ran loose and  Dan Sibley (Melksham Town) scored from close range.

Cornwall responded positively and mid way through the first half scored twice, the goals just five minutes apart. The 25th minute saw Jordan Annear (Porthleven)  equalise with a powerful headed goal. An almost carbon copy occurred in the 30th minute, this time Nick Hurst (Wadebridge Town) headed into Wiltshire FA's net taking Cornwall into the lead 2-1. Wiltshire FA then put Cornwall FA under pressure in the early stages of the second half, as they went looking for an equaliser.

Cornwall FA however defended well by blocking several goal bound efforts and riding their luck on occasions. Cornwall FA gradually gained a foothold regarding possession and in added extra time Callam Mconie (Newquay) scored another goal, finalising the score 3-1.

Cornwall FA would like to extend our grateful thanks to the hosts, Nanpean Rovers FC for the use of their facilities and for hosting the match.
