FA County Youth Knockout Cup:  Round 2

Cornwall Youth 1 Amateur Football Alliance  2
(at St.Blazey FC)

Despite recent heavy rain St.Blazey's Blaise Park playing surface was in excellent condition as the two sides met for the first time in this National Competition.

It was the London based 'Alliance' that went ahead after only 7 minutes when Charlie Portway (Redbridge College) turned his marker and his powerful angled drive found the roof of the net. The Cornwall side fought back well and on 15 minutes following a good run by full back Nick Hurst (Wadebridge Town) saw his cross headed in by Kyle Flew (Camelford ).  Five minutes later a crucial slip in the Duchy defence saw Davy Evans (Enfield Town) run through unchallenged on goal and he duly slipped the ball under the advancing James Wignall (Helston Athletic)

The crowd sat back expecting more goals however none arrived, both sides had their opportunities, Josue Nzau (Enfield Town) hit the bar and Kyle Flew sliced wide when well positioned. Cornwall threw everything into attack in the later stages but the AFA defenders were equal to the task.

The AFA now await the winners of the Herefordshire verses Somerset in round 3.

The Cornwall Side:

James Wignel, Nick Hurst, Scott Kellow, George Lumley, Danny Frolick, Ryan Chinn (c), Connor Davey, Harry Hopcroft, Kyle Flew, Ryan Trathen, Luke Haworth, Callam Mconie, Martyn Duff, and Alex Coles.
