Youth Bow Out

Kent 3 Cornwall 1 FA County Youth Cup Saturday 13th October 2012 at Tonbridge Angels FC.

Cornwall made an early exit from this season's competition following a disappointing display at Tonbridge Angels FC on Saturday. Despite almost perfect conditions, neither side played to their full potential which resulted in a rather tame affair. After Kent had given the Cornwall defence a testing opening five minutes, the visitors surprised their hosts by taking the lead following a short corner. Sam Hill ( Newquay FC ) heading in from close range.

Kent rallied and it came as no surprise  when Connor Taylor's ( VDC Athletic FC ) angled drive found the net via the upright in the 20th minute. There were no further goals and few chances created as the half time whistle blew. The second half was only 5 mins old when Kent took the lead. Sam Murray’s ( Fisher Athletic FC ) close volley giving the Cornwall Keeper Sam Trudgian ( Newquay FC )  no chance. Cornwall’s attempts to get on level terms were few and far between and what opportunities there were fell to Ed Wilton ( Perranporth FC ), but these were scrambled away by the home defence. A minute from time Gary Smith ( VCD Athletic FC ) made the game safe and put the hop county through to Round 2 of the competition.

Cornwall now return to their three remaining matches in the group stage of the South and West Counties Competition. Next up is a visit to Wiltshire on Saturday 24th November 2012.
