Illogan Gain Charter Status

10:33 AM, Wednesday, 09 March 11. Charter Standard

People from Illogan RBL Junior FC have put in place all the requirements to become part of a prestigious national scheme.

The youth football club were presented with their FA Charter Standard Award at a special ceremony during the half-time interval at the senior team’s recent Durning Lawrence Charity Cup Quarter-Final match against Camelford.

In order to qualify for The FA Charter Standard Scheme, a club must have completed a series of quality assurance measures on the qualifications of the people involved with the club and how it is run. There are a further 50 football clubs in Cornwall who have gained the respected FA Charter Standard status.

Pauline Peters is Illogan RBL Junior FC’s club secretary. She says, “The Junior part of the club has been in existence for over 15 years. In the last year the club has grown from 3 to 7 teams with training provided for children ranging in age from 5 to 18 years. Illogan has an enthusiastic team of qualified coaches and volunteers who have contributed to this achievement.
We meet the criteria at the club by having qualified coaches, adhering to Child Protection regulations, having a code of conduct, providing mini-soccer, liasing with schools, and providing equal-opportunities for all. Among the benefits for us are use of the Charter Standard Crest, access to training courses and eligibility for kit and equipment grants.

“On behalf of everyone at Illogan JFC, we are very pleased and grateful for this award. It means a lot to us.

David Bray, Cornwall FA’s Vice-Chairman and County Youth Secretary, who presented the award said, “Congratulations to Illogan. It’s thoroughly deserved. They have a good set-up here and we were made to feel very welcome.

“To achieve this status shows how volunteers within the club are willing to take on the different roles and gain qualifications to make football happen here and to provide excellent football opportunities for everyone in a safe and enjoyable environment.”
