Can You Make Up The Numbers?

10:55 AM, Thursday, 12 August 10. Women and Girls

Penzance's Women's section now have new members for the forthcoming season.

The club's Press Officer, Wilf Frith had made the following appeal:

"Having had a difficult yet amazing 2009-10 campaign, winning the Cornwall League Cup, Divison 1 Cup and finishing second in the table, despite rarely fielding a full eleven, Penzance Ladies FC find their numbers reduced yet further.

"But we are determined to keep the open-age squad going, especially with some committed youngsters coming through in the next year or two, who have already been playing together with much success for three seasons.

"With the women's side currently light on numbers again this term, they are in urgent need of a few extra players and have therefore arranged a Training & Signing-On Day on Sunday August 15th, at Penzance FC, 5pm-7pm.

"It cannot be stressed enough that the session is for all ages and abilities, experience is handy but by no means necessary. All those aged 15 years-old and over are most welcome, while girls aged 11 to 14 inclusive will train seperately with the juniors.

"Penzance LFC's history goes back to 1978, when they were formed as Redruth Youth Club. Later playing under the banners of Illogan RBL and Truro City FC, they eventually moved to Penzance in 1999.

"Over the years, the club has won the South West League, Western League and even reached the quarter-finals of the Women's FA Cup, only losing to a team made up predominantly of future Doncaster Belles stars.

"The future now very much depends on a good turn-out on August 15th. Help ladies football keep on kicking in Penzance! Just turn up and join in, call 01736 874689 for more information."
