County Loses One Of the Best

11:52 AM, Tuesday, 01 June 10. Honorary Officers and Councillors

One of Cornwall’s best-loved footballing figures has died. Tristan Scott from St Austell will be known to many people throughout Cornwall not just for his service to football in the county.

Tristan's involvement with football began with playing for St Austell Grammar School and Cornwall County Air Training Corps. He went on to be Secretary and then Chairman of Bugle FC when the club became South West League Champions in 1984-85 season. An achievement which made him a very proud man.

He was recently honoured by Cornwall FA for 60 years of service to football in Cornwall and by The Football Association for 50 years service.

Cornwall FA Chairman, Geoff Lee says, “Following hard on the heels of Len Lobb, Cornwall FA has lost another dedicated servant. Tristan has certainly left his mark in the world of Cornish Football.

Tristan Scott wrote articles for many years under the name of 'Clarion' for the Saturday edition of the Western Evening Herald. A talent he used well later in life for the County when reports were required for the Sunday Independent and local newspapers.

Tristan joined Cornwall County Football Association in 1969. He served on various committees including the Board of Directors and was elected Chairman and Vice-Chairman on many occasions.

David Bray, also from St Austell and Cornwall FA’s Vice-Chairman says, “Tristan gave his sporting life to football in Cornwall. He rarely missed a game locally and was instantly recognisable in his cap and camel-coloured overcoat. He also rarely missed a photocall when one was available!”

In other football roles, Tristan served on the Management Committee of the South Western Football League where he was Chairman for 22 years. He became a joint President when the South West Peninsula Football League formed from the SWFL. To mark the occasion, Tristan donated the 'Scott Cup' for the League Winners.

Dennis Champion a lifelong friend of Tristan and Cornwall FA colleague for 40 years described him 'as a man of football and a privilege to have known him'.

Tristan died of a heart attack on Saturday 29th May 2010 at Treliske Hospital, Truro. He was 82 years old. Tristan’s two children Caroline and Philip are both involved with football.

Tristan's funeral will be on Monday 14th June at 2pm at Holy Trinity Church, Church Street, St Austell followed by a private family commital at Glynn Valley.

Family Flowers only, but donations can be given in support of the British Heart Foundation or Mount Edgcumbe Hospice.
