3:09 PM, Tuesday, 09 February 10. Referees

Steve Harland, a rugby referee development professional will be in Callington in March.

Steve has been invited by the East Cornwall Society of the Referees Association to their meeting on Thursday 4 March 2010 at Callington Cricket Club.

He will be the guest speaker and as the RFU's Referee Development Manager for the South West will no doubt deliver a very interesting insight into the refereeing world in rugby.

Steve Harland took up the whistle after injury curtailed his playing career and has enjoyed officiating for 20 years, the last 12 years as a member of the RFU Panel of National Referees.

He has played for many ships and establishments during a lengthy career in the Royal Navy as a specialist communicator and has been employed as the RFU Regional Referee Development Manager for the South West since 2005.

Although originally from London, Steve now considers Plymouth his home. He is a member of Devon and Plymouth Referees Societies where he helps to develop other referees also maintaining close contacts with the Royal Navy and Combined Services Referees Societies and is a Life Member of the Royal Navy Rugby Union.

Steve has been fortunate to have officiated in many countries around the globe, even in the Falkland Islands and having enjoyed the camaraderie that the great game offers he hopes that will continue for some time yet.

The meeting starts at 7.30pm.
