Jasmine's England Progress

10:31 AM, Friday, 08 May 09. Girls' Centre of Excellence

Redruth’s Jasmine Matthews, who was recently invited to the England Under-15 Girls training camp, has been invited back. This time it’s for the Under-17 training camp.

Jasmine is delighted and said she learned a great deal from her Under-15 camp, “It was really hard work, but the coaches were so good and told me what I need to do to improve my game.” The two days covered attacking, defending and the players were coached during a number of full team (11v11) training games. The Under-17 camp is from 24th to 28th May at Maidenhead in Berkshire.

While 16 year old Jasmine’s football ability is in no doubt, it’s her diet that she is really tackling. She said, “No more junk food for me. I need to eat a healthy diet with lots of pasta, chicken and fruit in it to help to get to ideal fitness and strength levels.”

The England set-up is no longer an unknown for Jasmine. She says the people were all really helpful and made her feel welcome, so she’s really looking forward to the Maidenhead trip.

That’s not all Jasmine has to look forward to. She will be taking up a place at Filton College in Bristol in the autumn where she will be able to combine study with her sport.

Jasmine has been kicking a ball ever since she can remember and joined Goonhavern Girls FC when she was 10. She has since played for Truro City Girls and was in the Under-16 squad at the Cornwall FA Girls’ Centre of Excellence. “I really want to thank all the coaches who’ve helped me over the years I’ve played football”, she added.
