They were delighted to hear that they have been successful in a bid to the Football Foundation for a three year programme to be developed at the club.
Part of the development is to have girls’ teams at Bude Town who will play in a girls Football League in Cornwall. Jane Cann, Community Development Officer from Budehaven who completed the bid said that “There are a lot of girls who play football but don’t have any opportunities to play competitively with a club, we are really pleased that the bid has been successful and are now working hard to get everything in place.”
The first event was the North Cornwall Girls Football Tournament which was held at Budehaven this week. Bude Junior, Marhamchurch Primary and Berrycombe Primary School were all competing for the trophy. Before the matches the girls received coaching from Warren Parker, Cornwall FA’s Girls’ and Women’s Football Development Officer, which they thoroughly enjoyed.
After the coaching the games commenced and it became clear that Berrycombe were a real force with two very talented players, they dominated both their games and scored some lovely goals. Bude and Marhamchurch had a really exciting game with some brilliant play but as Marhamchurch chances went just wide of the post Bude took second place after the convincing winners Berrycombe.
Any girls interested are welcome to come along and receive some coaching and find out more about what will be happening soon. For further details please contact Shelly Davies on: 01288 353 912.
