The Cornwall Girls’ Centre of Excellence players took part in ‘Kick for children with cancer 2008’ – an initiative to encourage children and young people to get out onto the pitch and raise money for children with cancer.
Dawn Bateman, Women’s Football Development Officer, organised the event with the young players as opportunity for them to practice their footballing skills and at the same time support a worthy cause. The girls raised a fantastic £1,706.55 after showing off their ball skills during a rigorous practice session in April.
Dawn says: “The Girls wanted to get involved with Kick for Children with cancer to raise money for children with Cancer and Leukaemia. It is a great opportunity for them to practice their football skills and encourage other girls to get out onto the field this summer and play some football. It is also a great opportunity for us to make a really positive difference for children with cancer. We are delighted to be able to support such an event and would encourage others to too. It has been great fun”.
The players taking part were Cyra Carne, Zoe Curtis, Kayleigh Dawe, Billie Gosling, Luise Ham, Jade Martin, Tegan Nichols, Chelsea Stanyard, Lottie Roberts, Dani Hay, Kayley Lane, Georgie Lane, Amelia Lovegrove, Georgie Luscombe, Chloe Richards, Cassie Ringham and Danielle Winkworth from the U14s and Lucy Walters, Elizabeth Smythe, Tia Luscombe, Ebony Dover, Amy Studley, Tamar Hosking, Helen Ford, Lois Williams, Sophie Mackenzie, Yasmin Walters, Georgia Doyle-Lay, Chloe Henderson and Emily Edgecombe from the U10s group. Kick for children with cancer encourages people from schools, clubs, pubs and other organisations to get involved in a football related event to raise money. 75% of the total raised will be given to CLIC Sargent to provide ongoing support to children with cancer and their families while the remaining 25% will go straight back to the organisers so they can invest in their club or local community.
This is Kick for Children with Cancer’s fourth consecutive year. Last year, 84,000 children took part in 617 events throughout the country, raising £105,000.
