Penzance will become one of the first ever women's sides to play at the new Wembley Stadium, after qualifying for the national finals of the FA Umbro 5s.

The club reached the July 15th competition climax by winning the South West Region Final at the Goals Centre in Plymouth's Central Park on Sunday. The success was achieved through a penalty shoot-out (3-2), against Cullompton side, Soccerettes-Kerry, following a 1-1 draw. Penzance only conceded one other goal, in the opening tie with Dochester's 'A'Team', afterwhich they beat Yeovil's 'Made in Devon' (2-0) and Rolle Rockets (5-0), Julie Lawrence grabbing a hat-trick as they topped the group. Single-goal wins followed in the knockout stages against Clevedon's 'Bananas' and Plymouth Argyle's 'Four in a Row'. They trailed the final until late on, when Lauren Hosking levelled to force extra-time.

Fellow Regional Finalists from the Cornwall heat,  Goonhavern, lost to Cheltenham Town (3-0), Soccerettes-Kerry (5-0) and Yeovil Town (1-0).

There was also a personal success for Penzance's Candice Britten, who took over 8th spot with her shooting skills in the Umbro 5s Challenge leader board, with the eventual top ten qualifying for Wembley.
