Having lost all three 7-a-side games to Truro this season, the Magpies began as the underdogs and went behind to a 12th-minute goal. But despite a period of pressure, they were level on 20 minutes, as Laura Ellis found Jai Hawkins, who fired across the keeper and inside the far post. Following a surging run by Beth Andrew, Hawkins had another effort from the corner of the box but it hit the inside of the post and the keeper gathered it on the line. But right on half-time, Hawkins again broke into the area and beat the keeper with a clinical finish for a 2-1 lead at the interval.
Ten minutes after the restart, a penalty was awarded for handball and Andrew stepped up to comfortably convert, Truro replied with a breakaway goal but just 4 minutes later, there was another timely goal from Hawkins. A great turn by Charlotte Richards saw her play in Beth Mead, who cracked a shot against the bar, before Hawkins followed up to complete her hat-trick.
Penzance now go forward to the seven-team regional finals in Bristol on May 2nd, with the hope of progressing to the British finals.
