Current Activity for Girls Football
The focus for girls football has been to work with schools to offer playing opportunities within a festival style format. This has been largely aimed at increasing opportunities for Primary age groups years 4, 5 and 6 (under-10 and under-11).
This activity for these age groups fits into the Schools Development Plan which also caters for under-12 age group with 7-a-side and under-14 and under-16 with the 11-a-side game.
Cornwall FA's Warren Parker, Women and Girls Football Development Officer, says," This will be great news as the comprehensive competition plan should serve to encourage schools to promote the increased opportunities for girls. This is something that I have been working towards for some time as the schools are naturally the life blood to encourage inclusion thus increasing the club based playing exit routes for the girls. "
Turn Up and Play
Recently, coaches from Charlestown Girls FC conducted sessions in four local schools. The photos of girls from Pondhu and Treverbyn Schools are featured on this page.
The girls can now continue playing football at the club's new Turn Up and Play centre at Poltair School on Saturday mornings. Charlestown hope to form a team from there to compete in the Kernow Youth League in season 2010-2011.
Coaches also took sessions at Padstow and St.Merryn Schools and those girls who would like to carry on learning and playing football can join Padstow Mini-Soccer Centre.
Existing Clubs
A support package is being offered to enhance the female playing environment.
Clubs are encouraged to provide places for girls who have been inroduced to football in school and wish to continue.
If your club is interested in these schemes, please contact Warren.
