Football Foundation Build the Game
The Build the Game scheme provides small grants for small facility projects. The scheme has flexible criteria and there are many eligible items, so long as it is the right project for the right applicant. All projects must demonstrate they can support the growth and retention of grassroots football. The maximum grant available is £20,000 and there is no limit to the total cost of a project this could contribute towards. Guidance Notes and a link are available on the right.

Football Foundation Community and Education Programme
It has been agreed that the Football Foundation's Community Scheme is to close for a period of time, therefore new applications will no longer be accepted.
The Football Foundation will work through applications that are in the system and acknowledged by FF, but the FF will not accept any new applications. All 'Expressions of Interest' that are in the FF will not be progressed through the system at the moment. The Sport England Small Grants Programme
This funding stream aims to support local community sport projects which seek to increase participation, sustain participation or develop opportunities for people to excel at their chosen sport. You can apply for any sum from £300 to £10,000 but the total project cost cannot exceed £50,000. Click for more information.
Sportsmatch Funding Scheme
Sport England's new look Sportsmatch scheme can match sponsorship which has been given to an eligible sports body by a company, trust, charity, or private individual to fund projects that promote new participation at grassroots level. The minimum award is £1,000 and the maximum is £100,000. Click for more information
Grassroots Grants from the Cornwall Community Foundation (CCF)
Cornwall Community Foundation is the local funder for grassroots grants in Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly. This grants programme is aimed at small community & voluntary sector organisations that operate in this area (beneficiaries of the same). Originally applicants must have been in existence for at least 1 year, have a turnover of £30,000 per year or less (averaged over 3 years), be volunteer led and not for profit. Examples of requests for funding could include equipment, trips and outings, training, salaries (if relating to a specific project) etc. Exceptions do apply including requests for general funding.
The programme ends in 2011, with last grant rounds in the last quarter of 2010. For full details or further information please contact the grants team at CCF on 01566 779333.
Funding for Leagues
The Leagues Funding Scheme, which assists leagues purchase new computers, computer related equipment or office equipment, will be operating again in Season 2009/10.
The information is available on the right. It should be noted that any league that received grant aid in Seasons 2007/2008 and 2008/09 will not be eligible to apply for funding.
A list of items considered to be eligible for financial assistance is included on the Frequently Asked Questions sheet together with details of the ‘Priority’ and ‘Low Priority’ categories. The amount of grant is dependent on the number of registered teams each league has and will be based on £10 per team with a minimum grant of £250 and a maximum grant of £1,000 available.
However the League Finance Committee has agreed that for Season 2009/10 if a league has 150 teams or more they can apply for grant aid up to a maximum of £1,200.

There are other potential funders as well as the Football Foundation. A download of many of them is available on the right (Sports Funding Information). Here are some examples at the present time:
Community based organisations working with disadvantaged communities and groups in the UK are eligible to apply for funding under the Sport Relief Grants Programme. The Sport Relief which was set up by Comic Relief and BBC Sport to use the power and passion of sport to tackle poverty and disadvantage. In the UK, money raised through Sport Relief 2006 is currently being distributed in two ways.
* The Community Foundation Network is distributing Sport Relief grants of up to £10,000 to projects that use sport to build the confidence and self esteem of people who are having major problems in their lives. Other projects will give people who would otherwise miss out, the chance to take part in sport.
* UnLtd is distributing Sport Relief grants of up to £5,000 to young people who use sport to bring people together in their local area to enhance community relations and reduce conflict where they live. Please see

Goalpost Safety Scheme
The FA has now banned the use of metal cup hooks are still being used as net fixings. Match officials have been advised that matches should be postponed where such fixings are evident on any part of the goal frame. The fixings shown in the photos on this page will be acceptable, i.e. plastic arrow heads which can be screwed in, plastic clip net fasteners and new goals which have internal channels for plastic grippers.
The Football Foundation has been supporting the replacement of goalposts. Grants for up to 50% of the costs of replacement goalposts are available. More information is contained in the download on the right.
If Clubs do not wish to purchase new goals because of cost, it is recommended they should consider grinding the hooks off and ensuring the equipment is then well rubbed down to ensure no sharp edges remain. Manufacturers offer various different net ties and fixings which can ensure the nets are securely affixed to the goal. A list of those who can supply such net fixings, are shown below:
