Safeguarding Children & Welfare Officers Workshops

These workshops are interactive and informal; tutors draw on participant's experiences and knowledge as well as developing learning through presentation and small group activities.

 

Safeguarding Children

Workshop Information:
  • Workshop duration - 3hrs
  • Workshop prerequisites - None
  • Who is it for - This workshop is mandatory for all coaches, welfare officers, referees (over 16 years). Anyone else, over the age of 16 years, who is interested to learn about safeguarding is welcome to participate.
  • Workshop aims & objectives: The workshop is designed to raise awareness of best practice in safeguarding children in football and to ensure that everyone recognises their moral and legal responsibilities when working with children. It supports participants to create fun, safe and positive football environments, ensuring that people know how to report a concern about a child's welfare. The workshop supports The FA's strategic goals to raise standards across the game and demonstrates our capacity to be trusted to lead.
        

Workshop Content:

This is a workshop designed to answer questions such as:

  • What is best practise when working with youngsters in football?
  • What is poor practise?
  • How would i recognise the signs, indicators and forms of abuse?
  • What kind of behaviour and abuse affect our own feelings?
  • How does poor practise and abuse affect our own feelings?
  • When and how should i act if you have concerns about a childs welfare?

Safeguarding Children - New Recertification process
From March 2012 anyone who has completed the 3 hour Safeguarding Children Workshop and / or the paper recertification can take the Online Safeguarding Children Recertification Course.  This includes those who have an expired Safeguarding Children Workshop Certificate or paper recertification.

The content of the Online Recertification extends revision and learning beyond the paper recertification content and brings participants up to date with current practice, including Respect and Social Media.

The course enables Coaches in FA Charter Standard Clubs to maintain their Safeguarding training as required in health checks.  It also allows Coaches to update their Safeguarding training record and join the Licensed Coaches Club.

Cost
The cost is £13.95 per delegate including the cost of the certificate delivered to their home after completion.  Delegates can complete the course at any computer that has access to the internet and can dip in and out of the modules whenever their commitments allow.

Welfare Officers Workshop

Workshop information:

  • Workshop duration - 3hrs
  • Workshop prerequisites - The Safeguarding Children workshop is essential for Welfare Officers to complete prior to attending this workshop. Welfare Officers must also have an FA CRB check prior to being appointed in their role. For further information on this click here.
  • Minimum age - 18
  • Who is it for - This workshop is exclusively for grassroots League and Club Welfare Officers.
  • Workshop aims & objectives - The workshop is designed to explore the role of the welfare officer and to identify the support networks for designated persons in football. It will assist welfare officers to recognise the best practice that is already in place to safeguard youth leagues and youth teams and identify any areas that need to be addressed to provide fun, safe, positive football environments. The workshop will support welfare officers to take ownership and develop confidence in dealing with poor practice issues, provide information on key child protection legislation and the statutory agencies and provide clarity on reporting concerns about child abuse. The workshop supports The FA's strategic goals to raise standards across the game and demonstrates our capacity to be trusted to lead.

Workshop Content:

This workshop is designed to answer such questions as:

  • What responsibilities do welfare officers have to safeguard children?
  • What responsibilities do clubs and leagues have to safeguard children?
  • How does a welfare officer ensure the club is following best practice?
  • What should a welfare officer do when concerns are reported about poor practice, bully and or abuse within or outside a football setting?
  • What is CRB and who should not have a check done?
